The two-mile long beach in Lahinch is an excellent beach for surfing, no matter what your ability is. It has a variety of breaks that cater for novice, intermediate and experienced surfers. Five miles further south from Lahinch you will find Spanish Point, which is another perfect surfing beach. Both beaches are among some of the best places in Europe to learn surfing with the advantage of the slower rolling Atlantic waves.
 
 

Lessons

There are a selection of surf schools to choose from in the area. They all provided safe, relaxed and affordable introductions to surfing plus for the more advanced people there are lessons available to help improve surfing technique. All the schools detailed below are Irish Surfing Association Approved.

The schools include Lahinch Surf School which is run by Irish Surfing Champion John McCarthy, www.lahinchsurfschool.com. His school caters mostly for groups that have never surfed before.

Bens Surf Clinic is the first improver surf school and is also based in Lahinch. Ben specialises in smaller groups that have surfed before but need to improve their technique and skill. Suitable for all levers www.benssurfclinic.com.

Clare Surf Safari, is a mobile surf school. Dexter offers free transport from the hotel to the beach and the lesson. The bus can take up to 5 people and you get to choose the beach www.claresurfsafari.com.

All the schools provide surfing lessons for all ability and ages. These lessons will teach you the techniques of surfing, cover water safety and ocean awareness and provide you with all the equipment necessary for your lesson.
